We transformed this historic Essex Village home into an exemplar of smart energy. Renovated in the sixties, we preserved the original 1847 features and thoroughly updated everything else. We installed geothermal heating and cooling, a whole-house battery backup, solar, sprinkler system fire prevention, an elevator, casement windows, in-floor heating, spray foam insulation, and Hardie board siding. At the same time, we preserved key historic elements like wide-plank floors, wood beams, and stone.

We turned this all-electric home into a model of energy efficiency. Now it helps supply CT’s grid and is powered silently during outages.
